Professional Cloud Database Engineer

Who this exam is for

This exam suits engineers who choose, migrate, and operate cloud database solutions. The guide includes scalable and highly available design, environments using multiple database technologies, migration, and deployment on Google Cloud. It is relevant when a team needs someone to connect application data needs to the practical behavior of a database system. Preparation should give migration and ongoing operation as much attention as the initial technology choice.

Google recommends: 5+ years of overall database and IT experience, including 2 years of hands-on experience working with Google Cloud database solutions Source.

What you will study

Google’s certification page lists these assessment areas. Use them to orient your preparation, then read the linked exam guide for the detailed objectives. The list is not a question count or a promise of what will appear on your exam.

  • Design scalable and highly available cloud database solutions
  • Manage a solution that can span multiple database solutions
  • Migrate data solutions
  • Deploy scalable and highly available databases in Google Cloud

Requirements are not the same as preparation

Prerequisites stated by Google: None. No formal prerequisite does not mean no experience is needed. Review Google’s recommended experience and the official sample questions before deciding how much preparation you need.

Check the standard exam details below before booking. Renewal options can have different eligibility, formats and prices; they are not a shorter first-certification route. Confirm current availability directly with Google.

How it compares with PMLE

Database Engineer focuses on database design, migration, deployment and operation. PMLE includes data decisions within an ML solution, but also covers models and MLOps. Database expertise and ML readiness are separate things to assess. Compare the PMLE exam guide.

Testero’s available PMLE diagnostic does not assess Professional Cloud Database Engineer readiness. The notification form is for a future Testero diagnostic, not Google exam registration. No Testero launch date is promised.

Make a plan before choosing practice

How to prepare

  1. Read the standard guide and turn its sections into a database decision record. Describe workload needs, availability expectations, and the reasons for a proposed design. Include how multiple database technologies could affect management rather than assuming one system fits every task.
  2. Use Google Cloud Skills Boost labs to practice database deployment and operational checks. Inspect how an application would connect and how you would verify that the deployed system matches the intended access and availability requirements.
  3. Study migration as a sequence of decisions: assess the starting point, plan the move, validate the result, and consider recovery if the outcome is wrong. Tie those decisions to the guide instead of treating copying data as the whole migration.
  4. Review the official sample questions with attention to workload constraints. Explain why a choice supports the scenario and what you would verify in operation; familiarity with a database product is not a substitute for that reasoning.
