Professional Cloud Developer

Review the development credential for building and running applications on Google Cloud.

Who this exam is for

This exam fits developers building cloud-native applications and taking them through testing, deployment, and service integration. The guide places scalable, secure, and reliable design alongside the practical work of configuring an application to run. It is relevant when your responsibilities extend beyond writing a feature to understanding how that feature behaves in a cloud environment. Preparation should connect implementation choices to deployment and runtime behavior instead of treating those as someone else’s concerns.

Google recommends: 3+ years of industry experience including 1+ years designing and managing solutions using Google Cloud. Source.

Professional Cloud Developer: scope and next steps

What you will study

Google’s certification page lists these assessment areas. Use them to orient your preparation, then read the linked exam guide for the detailed objectives. The list is not a question count or a promise of what will appear on your exam.

  • Design highly scalable, secure, and reliable cloud-native applications
  • Build and test applications
  • Configure cloud-native applications for deployment
  • Integrate applications with Google Cloud services

Requirements are not the same as preparation

Prerequisites stated by Google: None. No formal prerequisite does not mean no experience is needed. Review Google’s recommended experience and the official sample questions before deciding how much preparation you need.

Check the standard exam details below before booking. Renewal options can have different eligibility, formats and prices; they are not a shorter first-certification route. Confirm current availability directly with Google.

How it compares with PMLE

Cloud Developer centers on cloud-native applications, testing, deployment and service integration. PMLE centers on ML solutions and their lifecycle. Application development can support model-serving work, but it does not cover the full PMLE guide. Compare the PMLE exam guide.

Testero’s available PMLE diagnostic does not assess Professional Cloud Developer readiness. The notification form is for a future Testero diagnostic, not Google exam registration. No Testero launch date is promised.

Make a plan before choosing practice

Mark the guide objectives you can already explain or perform, then set aside time for the gaps. Our free study planner can turn the guide weights into a time budget. It does not measure your skills or include a question bank for this exam.

How to prepare

  1. Read the standard guide with one application in mind. Identify its reliability and security needs, how it would be tested, what configuration deployment requires, and where it depends on other Google Cloud services. Use those questions to organize study gaps.
  2. Practice building and deploying through Google Cloud Skills Boost labs. Change one application setting or integration deliberately, then explain the observed result and how you would distinguish a code defect from a deployment configuration issue.
  3. Use the official sample questions to practice choosing an approach under specific constraints. State which part of the application lifecycle the question concerns before comparing answers, especially when several options sound technically possible.
  4. Review the application as a complete delivery unit. Trace a request through its service integrations, consider a failed dependency, and explain how testing and configuration choices support reliable behavior rather than relying only on a successful initial deployment.
